1. The speck attracted the speaker’s attention because it moved on its own instead of being a simple mark or dust particle. In reality, it was a living mite. Initially, the speaker wanted to remove it, but later he became curious and respectful when he noticed its intelligence and independent behaviour.

   • It moved purposefully across the paper instead of staying still.
   • It sensed and disliked the ink, quickly moving away from it.
   • It showed a desire to survive by escaping from danger.
