Solution

Ozone production and degradation in the stratosphere ought to be balanced. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) have recently increased ozone deterioration, upsetting the equilibrium. As refrigerants, CFCs are widely used. When CFCs are released into the lower atmosphere, they ascend and enter the stratosphere. Cl atoms are released when UV rays interact with the stratosphere. Cl atoms only serve as catalysts in the process of breaking down ozone, which releases molecular oxygen; they are not eaten. Therefore, any CFCs that are introduced into the stratosphere have an ongoing and permanent impact on the amount of ozone.
