Long Answer

Solution
Because they perform cellular respiration, which breaks down glucose and other molecules to release energy stored as ATP, mitochondria are referred to as the cell’s powerhouse. A eukaryotic cell would not be able to generate energy through cellular respiration if all of its mitochondria were eliminated. The cell could not perform its energy-demanding functions, including material synthesis, transport, and movement, without ATP. Therefore, the cell would stop its functions and ultimately die.
