Question
What must be the temperature in Fahrenheit so that it will be twice its value in Celsius?
Advertisements
Solution
Let the temperature in Celsius be T.
So, the temperature in Fahrenheit = 2T
Now,
F = 32 + `9/5` C ...(formula)
⇒ 2T = 32 + `9/5` T
Multiply both sides by 5,
10T = 160 + 9T
10T − 9T = 160
T = 160°
Temperature in Fahrenheit = 2T
= 2 × 160
= 320°
∴ The temperature in Fahrenheit that is twice its value in Celsius is 320°.
