Solution

  1. Adopt a whole-body warm-up which raises muscle and blood temperature and gradually increases heart rate, e.g. light running.
  2. Carefully stretch muscles and connective tissue, concentrating on every muscle group to be used in the performance.
  3. Use related warm-up so that any practice effect may be achieved simultaneously and chances of injury are reduced.
  4. Warm-up should suit both the athlete and the activity and should last 15 to 40 minutes without any fatiguing effect.
  5. Combine intensity and duration deftly for a good warm-up.
  6. Avoid time-lag between warm-up and competition/training; about five minutes is reasonable.
  7. Warm-up time varies with individuals; cool weather requires longer warm-up times.
  8. Along with the body, prepare the mind or “psyche up” by focusing on the task or activity that follows.
