Solution

Cell division is the basic process through which new organisms are formed from existing organisms. During cell division, the genetic material (DNA) is copied and passed on to the daughter cells. In unicellular organisms, cell division itself produces a new organism. In multicellular organisms, cell division helps in the formation of reproductive cells and the development of a new organism after fertilization. Thus, cell division ensures the continuity of life by transferring genetic information from one generation to the next.
