Question

What is the defining characteristic of open unemployment?

Options

• A person works only during certain seasons in agriculture

• A person has no work and is actively seeking employment

• More workers are employed than actually required for the job

• A person works fewer hours than required or below their qualifications

Answer 1

Open unemployment is defined as a situation where a person has no work and is actively seeking employment. This is the most visible and commonly understood form of unemployment where individuals are without jobs but are genuinely looking for work at the prevailing wage rate. It contrasts with other forms of unemployment where employment exists but may be inadequate or seasonal.
