This condition is defined by a high lateral curvature of the spine, resulting in a lower shoulder and higher hips on one side. The curve can be convex to either side, in either the thoracic or lumbar area, or to either side across both regions, or to one side in one region and the other in the next region. Convexity typically develops on the left side, as most people are right-handed and have stronger right-side muscles.
