Solution

A phobic disorder involves an intense and irrational fear of specific objects or situations. It represents a morbid or pathological fear that the individual knows is unreasonable, yet feels powerless to control or overcome. First noted by Hippocrates and later examined by Locke, phobias are marked by persistent, fear-driven avoidance behaviors that are clearly out of proportion to any actual threat. Even though individuals with phobias are fully aware that the feared object or situation poses no real harm, they are unable to resist or escape the fear, which often leads to increased anxiety.
