Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) means the responsibility of companies and industries to contribute towards the welfare of society and protection of the environment while carrying out their business activities. In India, companies undertake CSR activities in areas such as education, healthcare, sanitation, environmental protection, rural development and skill development.

Examples of CSR work in Mumbai and Maharashtra:

• Reliance Foundation: It carries out programmes in education, healthcare, sports and community development. Its health outreach programme in Mumbai provides healthcare through mobile and static medical units. It also supports children through the Education and Sports for All programme. 
• Tata Group and Tata Trusts: They support healthcare, education, skill development, tribal development, water conservation and rural development projects in Maharashtra. Tata Trusts also provide medical assistance to economically weaker patients, especially in Mumbai.
• DMart Foundation: It supports education programmes in more than 250 government schools in Maharashtra and also works in healthcare, nutrition and environmental areas.
