Solution
- When light is scattered by very fine particles of a medium, scattering of light takes place, and shorter wavelengths (blue colour) are scattered more than longer wavelengths (red colour).
- This happens because very fine particles cause Rayleigh scattering, in which the amount of scattering is inversely proportional to the fourth power of wavelength. Hence, blue light (shorter wavelength) is scattered more than red light.
