Solution
When bleaching powder is treated with an excess of a dilute acid, all the chlorine present in it is liberated. For example, when bleaching powder is treated with an excess of dilute sulphuric acid, all the chlorine present in it is liberated.
\[\ce{\underset{(Bleaching powder)}{\underset{Calcium oxychloride}{CaOCl2}} + \underset{(Dilute)}{\underset{Sulphuric acid}{H22SO4}} -> \underset{Calcium sulphate}{CaSO4} + \underset{Chlorine}{Cl2} + \underset{Water}{H2O}}\]
