Award a penalty kick (foul inside the penalty area). The referee must also apply any disciplinary sanction appropriate to the nature of the tackle: careless - no card; reckless - yellow card; using excessive force or endangering the safety of an opponent - red card. If the foul also denied an obvious goal‑scoring opportunity, the sanction depends on whether the defender made a genuine attempt to play the ball (penalty + yellow) or did not attempt to play the ball (penalty + red).
