1. Climate

   • Excess rainfall damages the crop; irrigation is required in drier regions.
3. Soil
   • Cotton grows best in black cotton soil (regur soil) of the Deccan Plateau.
   • Also cultivated in alluvial soils with good drainage.
4. Topography
   • Requires flat or gently sloping land for easy cultivation and irrigation.
