Solution
Regular physical activity supports both physical and mental well-being. It helps adolescents and young people to:
- Build or maintain physical fitness, strength, flexibility, coordination and endurance, and support healthy bones.
- Maintain energy balance and manage body weight.
- Keep body organs functioning well and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and some cancers.
- Improve mental alertness and support self-esteem, self-control, confidence and determination.
- Enjoy games and sports, which can also help with concentration and stress management.
The WHO recommendation for children and adolescents aged 5–17 is at least 60 minutes of moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity daily. Activities that strengthen muscles and bones should be included at least three times a week.
