Colloidal solutions are heterogeneous systems with dispersed particles sized between 1 nm and 1000 nm. The particles are uniformly distributed and visible only with an ultramicroscope. These particles do not settle down on standing and can pass through ordinary filter paper but not through animal membranes. Colloids differ from true solutions and suspensions in terms of particle size, visibility, and filtration behavior.
