Solution

  1. I watched an educational documentary about the structure of the atom. Its main topic was the discovery of subatomic particles and the development of different atomic models.
  2. The documentary explained that an atom contains protons, neutrons and electrons. It also described how atomic models developed from Dalton's solid sphere model to Bohr's model of fixed energy levels.
  3.

    • John Dalton: Proposed that atoms are indivisible particles.
    • J. J. Thomson: Discovered electrons and proposed the plum pudding model.
    • Ernest Rutherford: Discovered the atomic nucleus.
    • Niels Bohr: Proposed fixed energy levels for electrons.
    • James Chadwick: Discovered neutrons.
  4. I found Rutherford's gold foil experiment most interesting because it helped scientists discover the atomic nucleus. I still wonder how scientists can observe and study particles that are too small to see with ordinary microscopes.
