Solution

  1. Filtration
    • Sugarcane juice is filtered using sieves or strainers.

    • This helps remove solid impurities like dried leaves, mud, and other debris from the juice.

  2. Sedimentation and Decantation
    • The juice is left undisturbed for some time to allow heavier particles to settle at the bottom (sedimentation).

    • The clear liquid from the top is then carefully poured off (decantation).

  3. Heating and Evaporation
    • The filtered sugarcane juice is heated to evaporate water.

    • As water evaporates, the juice thickens and eventually forms jaggery.

  4. Crystallization (in Sugar Factories)
    • The sugarcane juice is further processed to form a concentrated sugar solution.

    • On cooling, sugar crystals form.

    • This method is essential for producing crystal sugar.

  5. Centrifugation
    • In sugar production, machines are used to spin the mixture at high speed to separate sugar crystals from the liquid (molasses).
