Veena is dutiful in the sense that she follows Rakesh’s instructions and prepares the food prescribed for Varma. However, her lack of warmth makes her care seem unkind: she smirks when Varma is denied food he craves, and does not comfort him when he is distressed. Therefore, she fulfils household duties but is not shown as emotionally compassionate.
