Two observers are stationed in two boats 4.5 km apart. A sound signal sent by one, under water, reaches the other after 3 seconds. What is the speed of sound in the water?

Solution
Distance of boats d = 4.5 × 103 m
= 4500 m.
Time t = 3 s
Speed of sound in water = `"d"/"t"` = `4500/3`
= 1500 m/s
