1. washing of fibres
2. carding and combing of fibres to form a rope-like mass of fibres known as ‘slivers’
3. spinning to make cotton yam
4. weaving of the ‘grey cloth’ or undyed cloth
5. bleaching of the 'grey cloth’
6. dyeing and printing
