Yes. Anil’s way of handling Hari was highly effective. Recognising that Hari was not a hardened criminal but someone who genuinely wished to get an education, Anil chose forgiveness over punishment. By teaching him to read and write, Anil provided the motivation Hari needed to change his life. Handing him over to the police would have branded him a thief forever, ruining any chance of true reformation.
