Solution

The values of k for which the quadratic equation x2 – 4kx + k = 0 has equal roots, are `underlinebb(0, 1/4)`.

Explanation:

For x2 – 4kx + k = 0, a = 1, b = –4k, c = k.

The discriminant D = b2 – 4ac

= 16k2 – 4k

= 4k(4k – 1)

Equal roots occur when D = 0,

So 4k(4k – 1) = 0

⇒ k = 0 or k = `1/4`.
