This story presents two contradictory images - one of extreme excitement and jubilation, and the other, which is painful and heartbreaking.
The siblings’ excitement on hearing about Pandit Ravi Shankar’s performance at a nearby auditorium, Anant’s eagerness to be able to enjoy the performance, and Smita’s delight on witnessing the ‘Once in a lifetime’ concert depict happiness, joy, anticipation and hopefulness.
On the other hand, Smita’s efforts in fulfilling Anant’s desire to witness the concert, the manner with which she pleads to the maestros to perform for her brother and the mixed feelings evoked as Anant savours the concert in his Aunt’s house as life slowly leaves his body, bring tears to one’s eyes and leave us feeling deeply anguished.
