Solution
After the Partition of India in 1947, a very large number of refugees came to India from West Punjab. Many of these refugees had lost their homes, lands, and all their belongings due to the communal violence and hurried division of the country. To provide them immediate shelter and relief, refugee camps were set up along important routes. A significant number of these refugees from West Punjab were encamped along the Delhi-Mathura Main Road. This area became one of the major centers for housing and supporting displaced people, where the government and relief agencies worked to provide food, temporary shelters, and medical aid and to plan their long-term rehabilitation.
