The radius of a circle is 10 cm. The area of a sector of the circle is 100 cm2. Find the area of its corresponding major sector. (π = 3.14).

Solution

Given: Radius of the circle, r = 10 cm

Area of the minor sector = 100 cm2

∴ Area of the corresponding major sector = Area of the circle − Area of the minor sector

= πr2 − 100

= 3.14 (10)2 − 100

= 314 − 100

= 214 cm2

Thus, the area of the corresponding major sector is 214 cm2.
