Solution

Sample data

Product Company Sales price per unit The purchase price per unit Units sold
Fruit juice Real 50 43 5
Samosa Chandan 20 15 6
Biscuits Britannia 10 7 7
Fruit juice Pepsi 40 35 5
Samosa Kundan 25 10 6
Biscuits Parle 5 3 7
Fruit juice Coke 45 32 5
Samosa Sugandh 20 8 6
Biscuits Cadbury 25 15 7

a) Comparison of Purchase and Sale Prices

Fruit Juice:

  • Average purchase price = (43 + 35 + 32) / 3 = ₹36.67
  • Average sale price = (50 + 40 + 45) / 3 = ₹45

Biscuits:

  • Average purchase price = (7 + 3 + 15) / 3 = ₹8.33
  • Average sale price = (10 + 5 + 25) / 3 = ₹13.33

Therefore, the average sale price is higher than the average purchase price for both fruit juice and biscuits.

b) Comparison of Sales

Total units sold:

  • Fruit Juice = 5 + 5 + 5 = 15 units
  • Biscuits = 7 + 7 + 7 = 21 units
  • Samosa = 6 + 6 + 6 = 18 units

Therefore, biscuits have the highest sales, followed by samosa and fruit juice.

c) Variation in Sale Price of Fruit Juice

The sale prices of different fruit juice companies are:

  • Real = ₹50
  • Pepsi = ₹40
  • Coke = ₹45

Maximum sale price = ₹50
Minimum sale price = ₹40

Range = Maximum − Minimum = ₹50 − ₹40 = ₹10

Therefore, the variation in the sale price of fruit juice is ₹10.
