Solution

Let the length and breadth of the rectangle be 3x m and x m, respectively.

According to the question:

3x × x = 147

⇒ 3x2 = 147

⇒ x2 = 49

⇒ x = 7 or x = –7

⇒ x = 7   ...(∵ x cannot be negative)

∴ Length = 3 × 7

= 21 m

Breadth = 7 m
