- The President is simply a formal executive, and the real power rests with the council of ministers, which is led by the Prime Minister. It would have been unusual to have the President elected directly by the people but denying him any real power.
- Because of the large number of the electorate, direct election of the President would have been extremely expensive, time-consuming, and energy-intensive. This is unfair given that he is only a symbolic head.
