Solution

Given: Let fixed charge = F (₹) and charge per km = r (₹/km).

For 12 km: F + 12r = 89.

For 20 km: F + 20r = 145.

Step-wise calculation:

1. Subtract the first equation from the second:

(F + 20r) – (F + 12r) = 145 – 89

⇒ 8r = 56

⇒ r = 7 (₹ per km)

2. Substitute r into F + 12r = 89:

F + 12 × 7 = 89

⇒ F + 84 = 89

⇒ F = 5 (₹)

3. Charge for 30 km = F + 30r

= 5 + 30 × 7

= 5 + 210

= 215

A person will have to pay ₹ 215 for travelling 30 km.
