Solution

The area marked in brown on the map is called the Pacific Ring of Fire because it is a horseshoe-shaped zone around the edges of the Pacific Ocean basin that is extremely active geologically. It is called the “Ring of Fire” because it is characterised by a large number of active volcanoes and frequent earthquakes. This region contains about 75% of the world’s active and dormant volcanoes and experiences around 90% of the world’s earthquakes. The intense activity is caused by the movement and collision of multiple tectonic plates that meet at convergent and transform boundaries all around the Pacific Plate, leading to subduction zones, volcanic eruptions, and seismic events.
