Solution

Given:

Absolute refractive index of diamond (μ) = 2.4

Speed of light in vacuumvair (c) = 3 × 108 m/s (Standard constant)

Formula:

Refractive index (μ) = `"Speed of light in vacuum (c)"/"Speed of light in medium (v)"`

v = `c/μ`

= `(3 xx 10^8)/2.4`

= `30/24 xx 10^8`

= 1.25 × 108 m/s

The speed of light in diamond is 1.25 × 108 m/s.
