Solution
I agree with this statement.
Reasons: The following are some of the features of monopolistic competition.
- Fairly large number of sellers: Even though there are many vendors in a monopolistic market, there are still fewer than in a market with perfect competition. Each seller has little control over the market supply because there are many of them. Every seller, however, has exclusive control over their brand. As a result, under monopolistic competition, each manufacturer has some degree of exclusivity, but they also have to contend with competition from vendors offering near replacements.
- Fairly large number of buyers: A monopolistic market has a significant number of purchasers. Because of this, no single customer can change the product’s price by changing their own demand.
- Product differentiation: The primary characteristic of monopolistic competition is product differentiation. Many companies are creating unique items in monopolistic competition. Every company’s product in this market differs from every other company’s offering in some way. Brand names, trademarks, unique packaging or container features, shape, quality, cover, design, color, and so on can all be used to differentiate a product. This indicates that there may be near substitutes for each company’s product and that demand for each company’s product has a very high cross-elasticity. For example, cell phones, toothpaste, soaps, two-wheelers, etc.
Thus, there are many features of monopolistic competition.
