Solve the following simultaneous equations:

x + y = 6; x − y = 4

x + y = 6    ...(1)

x − y = 4    ...(2)

Adding equations (1) and (2) we get,

2x = 10

∴ x = 5

Substituting value of x in equation (1)

5 + y = 6

∴ y = 6 − 5

∴ y = 1

∴ x = 5 and y = 1
