3y + 4 = 5y − 6

3y + 4 = 5y − 6

⇒ ​3y + 4 − 5y = 5y − 6 − 5y 

⇒ ​4 − 2y = − 6 

⇒ ​4 − 2y − 4 = − 6 − 4

⇒ ​− 2y = − 10

⇒ y = `(-10)/(-2)`

⇒ ​y = 5
