Solution

The given system of equation is:

x + y = 3   ...(i)

4x – 3y = 26   ...(ii)

On multiplying (i) by 3, we get:

3x + 3y = 9   ...(iii)

On adding (ii) and (iii), we get:

7x = 35

⇒ x = 5

On substituting the value of x = 5 in (i), we get:

5 + y = 3

⇒ y = (3 – 5)

⇒ y = –2

Hence, the solution is x = 5 and y = –2.
