Block to Block distances (in Mtrs.)

FROM TO DISTANCE
ADMIN ACADEMIC 60 M
ADMIN HOSTEL 160 M
ADMIN SPORTS 80 M
ACADEMIC HOSTEL 40 M
ACADEMIC SPORTS 120 M
HOSTEL SPORTS 150 M

Distance of Hyderabad Head Office from Amritsar University Campus = 2000 km.

Number of computers in each block is as follows:

Solution

  1. ACADEMIC Block ⇒ The server should always be placed in the block with the most computers to reduce network traffic and improve efficiency. The Academic block has 600 computers, significantly more than the others.
  2. To minimise cable cost, we use the Shortest Path (Minimal Spanning Tree) layout:
    • ACADEMIC to HOSTEL (40 m)
    • ACADEMIC to ADMIN (60 m)
    • ADMIN to SPORTS (80 m) Total Cable Length:
  3.  Two wired media to connect computers
    1. Twisted Pair Cable (specifically CAT6/Ethernet for connecting computers within a block).
    2. Fibre Optic Cable (best for high-speed connectivity between different blocks).
  4. Radio Waves
  5. Protocol and Device placement
    1. Full name of the protocol for audio-visual communication: VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol).
    2. Between ADMIN and HOSTEL (or any distance exceeding 100m). ⇒ A repeater is required to boost the signal when the distance between two blocks exceeds 100 meters. Since the distance between ADMIN and HOSTEL is 160 meters, a repeater is necessary to prevent signal degradation.
