Reemu read `1/5`th pages of a book. If she reads further 40 pages, she would have read `7/10`th pages of the book. How many pages are left to be read?

Let total pages of the book be x.

According to the question,

`1/5 x + 40 = 7/10 x`

⇒ `40 = 7/10 x - 1/5 x = (7x - 2x)/10`

⇒ `40 = (5x)/10`

⇒ `x = 400/5 = 80`

∴ Total pages of a book = 80

Hence, pages left to be read = Total pages of a book `- (7/10 x)`

= `80 - 7/10 xx 80`

= 80 – 56

= 24 pages
