Question
Recall how you felt before your Class X Board examination. How did you feel when the examinations were drawing near (one month before the examinations; one week before the examinations; on the day of the examination, and when you were entering the examination hall)? Also try to recollect what you felt when you were awaiting your results. Write down your experiences in terms of bodily symptoms (e.g. ‘butterflies in the stomach’, clammy hands, excessive perspiration, etc.) as well as mental experiences (e.g. tension, worry, pressure, etc.). Compare your symptoms with those of your classmates and classify them as Mild, Moderate, or Severe.

Solution
This is a personal reflection; the following is only a sample.
- One month before: occasional worry about preparation; mild tension.
- One week before: more frequent worry and difficulty relaxing; moderate tension.
- On the examination day: fast heartbeat and clammy hands, but able to focus; moderate anxiety.
- Entering the examination hall: brief nervousness and 'butterflies in the stomach'; mild to moderate anxiety.
- While awaiting results: repeated thoughts about the outcome and restlessness; moderate worry.
Classify the intensity based on your own experience and compare respectfully with classmates. Nervousness before an examination is common and does not by itself indicate an anxiety disorder.
