IUCN Red List is a publication of International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural resources (IUCN). It is a catalogue of taxa that are facing the risk of extinction. It gives information on threatened species of plants and animals. It imparts information about the urgency and scale of conservation needed for some main categories known as Red List Categories of species.

Extinct species are the ones which are already lost from wild as well as from cultivation. The last individual has died. Extinct in the wild species need utmost attention as there may be some individuals present in cultivation.

Critically endangered species are likely to become extinct in wild in immediate future. Their number is very small and need immediate attention.
