Solution
- Take a thick circular piece of white cardboard and draw a circle on it.
- Divide the circle into seven equal sectors.
- Colour the seven sectors in the colours of the rainbow in order: violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red.
- Make a small hole at the centre of the disc and fix the disc firmly on a pencil, stick or spindle so that it can rotate freely.
- Rotate the disc rapidly.
- When the Newton’s disc rotates very fast, the seven different colours appear to mix together, and the disc looks white or nearly white.
Observation: The seven colours are not seen separately when the disc is rotated rapidly. They appear to combine and form a white colour.
