Solution
In my family and locality, grains such as rice, wheat, jowar, bajra, pulses and other cereals are stored carefully to protect them from moisture, insects, rats and spoilage.
At home, grains are first cleaned and dried properly in sunlight before storage. They are then kept in airtight plastic containers, steel drums, metal bins or large storage boxes. Some families also use traditional methods such as adding dried neem leaves to help protect grains from insects. The containers are kept in a dry, clean and well-ventilated place and are checked regularly.
In the locality, farmers and traders may store grains in large sacks, warehouses, godowns and grain storage bins. Before storing, the grains are dried properly and the storage area is cleaned. Sacks are usually kept on raised wooden platforms or pallets so that they do not absorb moisture from the floor. Regular checking, pest control and proper ventilation help prevent damage.
Thus, a good grain storage system helps reduce wastage, maintain quality and preserve grains safely for a longer period.
