Question
On the occasion of the inauguration of the Olympic Stadium of Rome, before the 1990 World Cup, Pope John Paul II said to football players: "Sportsmen all over the world are looking at you. Be conscious of your responsibility, not only to be the champion in the stadium, but also the man who, with his whole person, must become a model for millions of young people who have need of leaders, not of idols. They have need of men who are able to communicate to them a taste for the arduous, a sense of discipline, the value of honesty and the joy of altruism. Your testimony, coherent and generous, can stimulate them to face the problems of life with the same commitment and enthusiasm.”

Solution
Good morning, students,
It is a pleasure to speak with you. As an athlete, I have learned that sport is about much more than winning medals. Talent may open a door, but dedication, discipline and honest effort help us move forward. Every practice session teaches us to face difficulty with courage and to keep going when success does not come immediately.
Remember, your character matters more than your results. Compete fairly, respect your opponents and accept both victory and defeat with grace. A champion is not someone who never fails; a champion learns from mistakes and returns with renewed determination.
Sport also teaches us the joy of helping others. Encourage a teammate who is struggling, thank the people who support you and make everyone feel welcome. The Paralympic Games remind us that athletes with physical impairments can achieve remarkable things and inspire society through their skill and perseverance. We should respect different abilities and work to make sport accessible to all.
You do not need to be famous to be a role model. Your choices in the classroom, on the field and in your community can influence others. Be a leader through your actions, not an idol who expects applause. Face life’s challenges with commitment, honesty and enthusiasm, and help others do the same.
Thank you, and keep striving to be your best!
