After the decline of the Maurya Empire, several dynasties and rulers established their kingdoms in different parts of India. Some important ones were the Shungas, Indo-Greeks, Shakas, Kushanas and Satavahanas. Among them, Gautamiputra Satakarni was an important ruler of the Satavahana dynasty.

“Greetings! I am Gautamiputra Satakarni, one of the important rulers of the Satavahana dynasty. My kingdom included large parts of the Deccan region. I fought against the Shaka rulers and strengthened the Satavahana kingdom.

During my reign, agriculture, trade and commerce developed. Trade routes connected different parts of India, and merchants also carried goods through sea routes. Coins and inscriptions from my period provide information about our administration and society.

I worked to maintain peace and stability in my kingdom and encouraged the development of towns, trade and culture. The Satavahana period holds an important place in the history of ancient India.”
