Solution
- The map shows the following primary economic activities: agriculture, animal husbandry, fishing, mining and lumbering.
- Very little or no activity is seen in Antarctica, Greenland, extremely cold polar regions, hot deserts and high mountainous areas. This is because of extreme climate, difficult relief, permanent ice or scarcity of water and vegetation.
- Lumbering is mainly found in the middle and higher latitudes, especially in the coniferous forest regions of Canada, northern Europe and Russia.
- Fishing is concentrated where nutrients and plankton are abundant, especially in shallow continental shelves and where warm and cold ocean currents meet.
- Agriculture, animal husbandry, fishing, mining and lumbering are found in Europe, with agriculture and animal husbandry being widespread.
- It mainly represents offshore petroleum and natural gas production.
- Mining is not shown in Antarctica.
- Fishing is carried out extensively in the Pacific Ocean, particularly in the North Pacific.
- Agriculture, animal husbandry, fishing, mining and lumbering are found in different regions south of the Tropic of Capricorn.
- Fishing is an important primary activity in the islands of South-East Asia. Agriculture, mining and lumbering are also practised in several islands.
- Australia has comparatively less agriculture because a large part of its interior has a dry and arid climate.
- Agriculture is mainly concentrated in regions having a favourable temperature, sufficient rainfall and suitable growing season. Very cold polar regions and very dry desert regions have little agriculture. Therefore, the distribution of agriculture changes with latitude because climate also changes with latitude.
