Question

Now we will extend the above experiment further by bringing another short bar magnet near to the freely suspended magnet. Does the suspended magnet rotate continuously or rotate through certain angle and remain stable?

Solution

Like poles repel and unlike poles attract, so the suspended magnet turns when the nearby magnet is brought close. It rotates through a finite angle and settles in a stable position when the turning effect is balanced; it does not rotate continuously.
