शीतयुदूध काल में विश्व के अधिकांश देश दो महासत्ताओं के गुटों में शामिल हुए थे । राष्ट्रों का इस तरह दो गुटों में विभाजन होना अर्थात दूविधुवीकरण होना है। इससे शीतयुदूध का प्रभाव बढ़ गया। तनाव का क्षेत्र फैल गया।
