The largest oil field in India is the Mumbai High Field (previously known as Bombay High). It is an offshore oil field in the Arabian Sea, around 160-176 kilometres west of Mumbai. The famous and historic offshore oil rig deployed here is known as Sagar Samrat. It is known for drilling the first offshore well, which led to the discovery of this enormous oil field in 1974.
