Mention two important proposals of the Mountbatten Plan.

1. Partition of India: The British agreed to the division of India into two separate dominions, India and Pakistan, based on religious majorities.
2. Right to Decide for Provinces: Provinces like Punjab and Bengal were to be divided if their legislative assemblies voted in favor of partition. Similarly, princely states were given the freedom to join either India or Pakistan.
