Solution

The first general election in independent India was held between October 1951 and March 1952. It was the world’s largest democratic exercise at that time, with over 173 million eligible voters. Despite challenges like widespread illiteracy and vast geography, the election was conducted successfully in multiple phases. The Indian National Congress, led by Jawaharlal Nehru, won a decisive victory by securing 364 out of 489 seats in the Lok Sabha. Other parties won only a small number of seats, establishing Congress as the dominant political force in the country. Jawaharlal Nehru became the first elected Prime Minister of independent India.
